Joint Commission Saves Lives Collaboration

ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ drives collaboration through both its comprehensive, consultative approach to accreditation as well as its unique ability to serve as a convener of influential health care stakeholders focused on critical industry issues. We collaborate with government agencies, quality improvement organizations, professional organizations, health care associations and others across the nation every day to improve patient safety and quality of care.

Our Patient Safety Advisory Group — comprised of nurses, physicians, pharmacists, risk managers and other professionals who have hands-on experience in addressing patient safety issues — helps identify critical and emerging patient safety issues and suggests effective methods for reducing patient safety risks.

Members on this advisory group come from several organizations including:

  • Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation Foundation
  • ECRI Institute
  • Institute for Safe Medication Practices
  • Institute for Healthcare Improvement
  • Partnership for Patient Safety
  • U.S. Food and Drug Administration

In addition, ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ collaborates with a number of organizations to promote patient safety such as:

  • National Patient Safety Collaborative, established in January 2018, is a voluntary collaborative of prominent, national patient safety organizations that works collectively on mutually identified safety concerns.
  • is a coalition of member organizations that develops principles for constructing patient safety reporting programs.
  • works to create consensus around nationally agreed-upon measures for quality and safety.
  • is a national consumer-led organization formed to be a collective voice for individuals, families and healers who suffer harm in health care encounters.
  • works toward the development, management, and use of safe and effective health care technology.
