Central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) are health care–associated infections (HAIs) that occur in an estimated 250,000 to 500,000 patients annually in the United States,have a 10-30 percent mortality rate, and burden the health care system with an additional $300 million to $2.3 billion a year.
