AHRQ Workplace Safety Supplemental Item Set

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has developed and validated a set of supplemental items measuring staff perception of workplace safety for both hospitals and nursing homes. These items measure topics such as workplace aggression, safe patient handling, and management support for workplace safety. The items are intended as an optional supplement to the long-established AHRQ Surveys on Patient Safety Culture™ (SOPS).

This 2023 course focuses on six competencies using evidence-based strategies that are intended to improve work-related hazards with a focus on personal and organizational approaches to healthy and safe work settings.

 

NIOSH defines Total Worker Health as “policies, programs, and practices that integrate protection from work-related safety and health hazards with promotion of injury and illness-prevention efforts to advance worker well-being.” The NIOSH Total Worker Health® Program has been providing resources, tools, and education for employers and workers since 2016.

Since 2004, OSHA and ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½/Joint Commission Resources has maintained an Alliance which aims to provide healthcare organizations and other industry stakeholders with information, guidance, and access to resources that will help them protect the health and safety of workers, and understand the rights of workers and the responsibilities of employers under the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Objectives include sharing information on OSHA's laws and standards, national initiatives, and opportunities to participate in initiatives and the rulemaking process.
